LOVE NEST: Adjusting to college, I found love
Issue date: 6/18/09 Section: Opinion
Dear Love Nest,
During orientation, I met this girl that I think is cool, funny and very attractive.
We have spoken several times and also have many common hobbies. I am really interested in her and would really like to pursue something in the future.
What should I do?
Paris says:
You should make sure that you stay in touch with her over the summer via Facebook or AIM. Once you go to school in the fall, give her a call and go meet up at a campus event or sports game.
Bring your roommates and she can bring hers so that the conversation is always moving. Once you have made a connection pursue it gently, because not many people are looking for relationships as soon as they arrive at school.
So go out have fun and meet new people without strings attached. Maybe things will work out between you and her once you are both acclimated to college.
Rome says:
Definitely get her digits! That will open your communication highway to her.
You have until school starts to get know her. If you are serious about this girl then get to know her, and give her opportunity to get to know you as well.
Give yourself time to discover if she wants to be in a relationship with you. Since you have some common hobbies, you are off to a good start.
Beware: Don't overdo it. I'll give you an example: Call and if she doesn't pick up leave a message. If she still doesn't call you, don't worry. People get busy, it's all good, you can call a second time to try to reach her. After that let it be though, more than twice is too much.
Play your cards right and you just might have met someone worthwhile and interesting.
Good Luck!
